Leg and Foot Massages

Before you begin:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly
  • Position your body to ensure you can sit and work comfortably on each foot.
  • Work on each foot separately.
  • As you do this, breathe and focus on each moment.
  • Remember, this time is for you to relax and feel better.

Here is how you do it:

  • Pre-assessment how you’re feeling: Assess how your body feels on a 0 to 10 scale. 0 means you are relaxed. 10 means you aren't relaxed but stressed.
  • Warm your foot and ankle by cupping your hands around the top and bottom of the arch of your foot. Gently hold for a minute.
  • Repeat the above step on your ankle.
  • Rub your entire foot using a circular movement of your fingers.
  • Knead your entire foot with a circular movement.
  • Using your finger, rub the surface of your foot between all the tendons and bones
  • Massage each toe.
  • Rotate each toe gently finishing with a gentle pull or tug of your toe.
  • Point your foot: hold it then release it.
  • Reverse pointing your foot: hold it then release it.
  • Warm your leg by cupping your ankle with both hands. Gently hold for a minute.
  • Repeat the above step on your knee - cupping and warming your knee.
  • Knead your entire leg in a circular movement.
  • Roll the muscles of your leg with your hand(s).
  • Repeat steps 1 -13 on your other foot and leg.
  • Rest now. Notice what you notice. Enjoy the feeling of relaxation.
  • Post-assessment: Assess yourself again as in step 1.
